A SHA-256 hash is a unique 64-character fingerprint generated from any document's content. If even a single character in the document changes — a comma, a number, a space — the hash changes completely. This makes SHA-256 hashes ideal for proving a document hasn't been altered since it was signed. Contracta HQ generates a SHA-256 hash for every document signed through our platform.
When a document is signed through Contracta HQ, the signer receives an email containing the document's SHA-256 hash. To verify the signed PDF hasn't been tampered with: extract the text from the signed PDF, paste it into this tool, and compare the generated hash against the hash in the signature email. If they match, the document is authentic.
